A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Black Diamond on April 29, at the intersection of Government Road and Centre Avenue, shortly after 2 p.m.

Foothills County RCMP said an elderly female was struck. An EMS spokesperson said the patient received serious, but not life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by ground ambulance.

RCMP report that a vehicle towing a trailer was stopped at a red light at the intersection. The driver heard a horn honk behind them and checked their mirrors to make sure everything was OK. At that time, they unintentionally took their foot off the brake and rolled forward, hitting the woman in a low-speed collision.

The driver immediately stopped but it was too late to avoid the collision.

Charges under the traffic safety act are being considered at this time. There is no criminal investigation and impairment was not a factor in the accident.
