Thanks to the support of the community, the Diamond Valley Youth Foundation hit its fundraising goal of $20,000 at the Fall Fling, held Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Flare n' Derrick.

Proceeds from the event were split equally between C. Ian McLaren and Turner Valley School. On Friday, Nov. 10, team members from the foundation met with C. Ian McLaren principal Stacey Swanson and Turner Valley School principal Debbie Payne to present the schools with a donation of $10,000 each.

Claire Rosenau, vice-president of the Diamond Valley Youth Foundation, said the funds were raised with the intention of directly enriching students’ education, adding the foundation is excited to see the impact these donations will have.

Funds raised at the Fall Fling will enable the schools to invite resident artists, arrange theatre productions, introduce STEM-focused programs and other experts to enrich the curriculum as well as fund field trips, transportation and update technology.

Rosenau said Fall Fling was made possible by the support of so many in the community. She said special thanks go to local band Haggis for keeping the dance floor full, Coun. Brendan Kelly, the MC, and Legion volunteer bartenders.

The Diamond Valley Youth Foundation is the charity partner of the local Tim Hortons for its Holiday Smile Cookie Campaign (Nov. 13 to 19) and will be doing its best to spread smiles at the Diamond Valley Light Up on Dec. 2.
