Diamond Valley's Town council is ready to get down to business.

Those elected to lead Diamond Valley into the post-amalgamation era took their oath of office during a ceremony at the Legion on Jan. 9. A reception allowed people to mingle before the formal ceremony got underway, and Highwood MLA RJ Sigurdson swore in each of the elected representatives.

Mayor Barry Crane was the first member to take the oath of office.

"It's an exciting time to be in our communities," said Crane after the ceremony.

He congratulated all the councillors and thanked Town staff and the residents of Diamond Valley.

"Thank you to the public for their patience and support as we cross this new threshold together," he added.

Councillors Jonathan Gordon, Cindy Holladay, Brendan Kelly, Veronica Kloiber, Hazel Martin and Heather Thomson took the oath of office following Crane.

There is not much time to reflect on the ceremony or the recent merger between Black Diamond and Turner Valley, as the first council meeting of the new Town is set for 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 11, followed immediately by an organizational meeting.

Meetings will be held at Diamond Valley council chambers, 301 Centre Avenue W, in the former Black Diamond municipal building.
