Neighbourhood watch group asks Turner Valley council for sign support

Ian Huffman of Diamond Valley Citizens on Patrol holds up a brochure about removing valuables from vehicles in Black Diamond on Nov. 12.
The Diamond Valley Citizens on Patrol is asking Turner Valley council for financial support to procure and install 10 signs around the community.

The local chapter of Citizens on Patrol for Diamond Valley is turning to Turner Valley council for a sign of support.

Ten, actually.

The group of volunteers that patrols the towns of Turner Valley and Black Diamond and acts as the eyes and ears of the RCMP is looking to raise awareness and community visibility through the use of street signs.

At the regular meeting slated for Jan. 19, Citizens on Patrol will ask council to cover the $2,000 cost of the 10 signs and posts and install them at locations around the community.

Although Diamond Valley Citizens on Patrol is a member of the provincial branch, no funding is received through them, the report to council reads.

The group is also asking Turner Valley administration work with them to establish a plan to enhance community safety and share the group's link on the town website.

Last year, the group made big strides in their public awareness campaign through the distribution of more than 1,000 pamphlets.

Council will discuss this at Wednesday's meeting and this story will be updated.
