The Town of Turner Valley has released tips on living with wildlife.
The tip sheet can be printed from the Town’s website and offers advice to minimize the chance of a dangerous human-animal encounter.
It comes after several black bear sightings in and around the town recently.
Alberta Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Services says it has been made aware of a black bear in the Turner Valley area over the past several weeks.
In a statement to the Western Wheel, it says the bear has not caused any issues and does not currently pose a risk to the public. However, Fish and Wildlife officers continue to monitor the situation.
The statement says that Turner Valley and the surrounding area is frequented by bears and other wildlife, and that residents can take steps to manage any attractants on their properties to prevent attracting animals.
Fish and Wildlife say bears that become habituated to unnatural food sources are a public safety risk because they may defend the food source.
