Weekend crash injures five on Highway 2

STARS was called to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 2 at Highway 540 which sent five people to hospital on Sunday afternoon. 

An EMS spokesperson said they were called to the scene around 3 p.m. on July 18 after a car and minivan collided. 

Two people in the car were taken to hospital.

A male in his 20s was transported by STARS in critical condition and a woman, also in her 20s, was sent to hospital by ground ambulance in stable condition. 

From the minivan, a male in his 40s, a female in her 30s and an elementary school-aged child were all transported to hospital in stable condition. 

Alberta RCMP said a collision analyst had been on scene and an investigation into the cause of the accident was ongoing. 

511 Alberta reported that Highway 2 southbound was closed for several hours, with traffic diverted onto Highway 540. Northbound traffic on Highway 2 was also reduced to one lane, and 511 Alberta reported all lanes re-opened at approximately 8 p.m. 

The intersection is about 10 kilometres south of the High River overpass in Foothills County.
