Woodlands County issued a notice at just after 5 p.m. on Saturday night, April 20, indicating that there is a wildfire burning approximately 18 kilometres north of Fort Assiniboine.

The fire (WWF012) is listed as out of control on the Alberta Wildfire Status Dashboard. The notice from Woodlands County states that Alberta Wildfire has "actioned" with air and ground crews as it pushes towards the north.

The notice was posted to the Woodlands County website and Facebook page. It said further status updates will be available at the Alberta Wildfire website.

It should also be noted that Woodlands County is currently under a fire restriction, which has been imposed for a large swath of central Alberta. Under this restriction, existing fire permits are restricted, suspended or cancelled and no new fire permits will be issued.

All outdoor wood fires are prohibited, as are fires fueled exclusively by charcoal briquettes and fireworks/exploding targets.

Safe wood campfires, backyard fire pits, charcoal briquette barbecues and propane/natural gas-powered appliances are allowed only in designated campgrounds on private and public land, designated day use areas and on privately-owned land.
