Grand opening for bakery in downtown Okotoks this weekend

The Sugar Shoppe on Elizabeth Street is the new venture of Adrienne Town.

Life in Okotoks will be getting a bit sweeter this weekend.

A bakery is opening on downtown's Elizabeth Street.

The Sugar Shoppe is the new venture of Adrienne Town. Town has been a baker her whole life and has run a cookie decorating business for the last seven years. She decided that she wanted to open a bakery in the heart of Okotoks.

"I have always loved baking and this seemed like the next natural progression," said Town. "We have had lots of support from the town so far with lots of people popping in."

Town is diagnosed with Celiac disease and makes a variety of baked goods that are gluten-free. She's proud of the hard to achieve soft quality of her Celiac-friendly pastries and breads.

Some of the most popular items at The Sugar Shoppe are brownies, macaroons and carrot cake muffins, which are made fresh every day.

The Sugar Shoppe, at 92 Elizabeth St., will be having its grand opening on Saturday, May 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The grand opening will feature free samples, giveaways and a grand prize draw.
