TORONTO — Perhaps the third time's a charm for Toronto-based stage director Ravi Jain, a returning contender for the Siminovitch Prize.

Jain was named Thursday among four finalists vying for the $100,000 Canadian theatre award, which is recognizing directors this year as part of its three-year rotation honouring contributions to different theatrical fields.

The founding artistic director of Toronto's Why Not Theatre has twice before been shortlisted for the prize — in 2016 and 2019.

His competition includes Montreal actor, writer and director Marie Brassard, whose surreal works have travelled across Canada, Europe and Japan.

Also in the running are Sherry J. Yoon, artistic director of Boca del Lupo in Vancouver, and Halifax director, actor and teacher Ann-Marie Kerr.

The winner, who will be named on Dec. 1, will receive $75,000 and will choose a protégé to receive $25,000.
