Canada should stand behind its Christian beliefs

Dear Editor,

I find it sad that Mr. MacKillop is “shocked” that a Canadian Prime Minister would take a stand beside an Israeli Prime Minister. Why should Mr. Obama’s proposals hold such sway? I’m confused about how he suddenly has become the savior of the world, isn’t that job already taken by a Jewish carpenter named Jesus of Nazareth? This whole debate is kind of simple. . . we just need to ask who’s camp are we in. If I am in the camp of Jesus Christ then I know how this will all be resolved — I just have to read the Bible. It clearly tells me what the boundaries of Israel are and who drew them, “Wherever the sole of your foot steps will be yours; your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon and from the River, the Euphrates River, to the Western Sea.” (Quite a bit bigger patch of land than the pre 1967 borders that Obama would shrink to less than nine miles across in some places). So why on earth would we support going backwards to 1967 instead of going forward with the God who fulfilled His promise to regather and reestablish Israel after dispersing them among the nations for 2,000 years.

So I am not shocked that Mr. Harper is a Christian and he has the guts to take an unpopular stand, I am glad. Canada has a long established foundation on Christian principles which by the way come through loud in clear in the French words of our National Anthem that were never modified as they have been in English. These words that are more a prayer than a song were sung for many years over this great nation before they were translated into English.

There was a time in this land when people were not ashamed, or embarrassed to take a stand for Christ and the truth of the Bible.

It’s times like this that I will miss Pastor Don Hall who passed away June 6, the most. He had a far superior ability to respond to such letters. I hope and pray that some other spiritual leader in Okotoks will step into the gap and take his place.

My father took a stand with our government for the Jews, by serving in World War II along with thousands of others. I take a stand by writing this letter, and urge other Believers to find their voices too.
