Cimarron Blvd cannot handle increased traffic

Dear Editor,

We have lived on Cimarron Blvd for four years and have never had traffic issues, that is, until Costco opened. As much as I enjoy Costco myself, I can only imagine what traffic will be like once the other new stores open. It takes us at least five minutes to back out of our driveway at any given time, due to the constant traffic speeding by our house. Not to mention the fact that I have almost been hit from behind on more than a few occasions when turning into my driveway.

Why do we need access to Costco via Cimarron Blvd when there are two alternate routes? I was under the impression that the new bridge would eliminate some of the traffic, but it has actually had the opposite effect and drivers are using Cimarron Blvd to access the new bridge. I think Cimarron Blvd should be designated as a “no through traffic” street, or, at the very least, the speed limit on this street should be reduced.

This is not just a matter of inconvenience, but also a safety issue. There are numerous school bus stops on Cimarron Blvd, many of them elementary school buses. Since there are parked cars all along both sides of the street, the buses are forced to stop in the middle of the road; therefore, the children are crossing in the middle of the road. I have witnessed several instances where drivers have failed to stop for these small children, either unable to see them or simply not paying attention. Cimarron Blvd is now a very hectic street and combined with parked vehicles, school children, high speeds, is an accident waiting to happen.
