Town says farewell to editor

Dear Editor, I write this letter today to say farewell to Western Wheel editor Don Patterson as he embarks on a new chapter in his life. I would like to wish him the best of luck as he heads to Toronto and Ryerson University to obtain his MBA.

Dear Editor, I write this letter today to say farewell to Western Wheel editor Don Patterson as he embarks on a new chapter in his life. I would like to wish him the best of luck as he heads to Toronto and Ryerson University to obtain his MBA. After working in High River for three years, Don came to the Western Wheel as a reporter in September of 2007 and became the editor in July 2014. During his nearly 11 years with the Wheel he covered a range of topics with his primary focus on municipal and provincial politics. Over the years, Don has had many accomplishments including winning several Alberta Weekly Newspaper Association journalism awards for outstanding reporting. Don also helped the Western Wheel earn numerous first place general excellence awards from the prestigious Canadian and Alberta Weekly Newspaper Associations. In particular, I have had a good-natured rivalry with Don over the past eight years in regard to our opposing loyalties to sports teams. Don’s support of the Edmonton Oilers and Eskimos, and my unwavering support of the Calgary Flames and Stampeders, has led to much good-natured banter and challenges. I will truly miss these interactions. Don, on behalf of Okotoks Town Council and administration, I wish you great success in your future endeavours and thank you for your time and hard work in Okotoks. Your contributions to journalism, and the dedication to your craft and to our community are admirable and will not be forgotten. Sincerely, Wm. (Bill) B. Robertson Mayor
