Elinor Frey will be joined by Rosa Barroca for Early Italian Cello Concertos, the High River Gift of Music’s final concert of the season on April 26.

Juno Award winners Elinor Frey and Rosa Barroca will highlight High River Gift of Music’s final concert of the season.

Set for Friday, April 26 at High River United Church, Early Italian Cello Concertos promises to be a flamboyant moment of musical history under the direction of Claude Lapalme.

Rosa Barocca is a 14-piece Baroque orchestra comprised of musicians from across Canada playing on period instruments, while Frey is an accomplished and expressive musician.

Concert goers will experience the radiance and dynamism of Baroque music in Italy and will learn about the evolution of the instruments themselves.

With a program featuring material from its 2023 Juno Award-winning album, the ensemble highlights the spectacular flair of early Italian cello concertos from the Baroque era. Concertos had been developed in the late 1600s as a musical composition for a solo instrument or voice, accompanied by an orchestra, like a conversation between one person and a group.

The concert is at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are available at highrivergiftofmusic.com or at High River United Church.

High River Gift of Music is a non-profit society that has been bringing extraordinary classical music to High River and area since 2009.
