An outdoor concert series in Okotoks kicks off its 2024 season tomorrow afternoon with a performance by the Foothills Philharmonic Vocal Jazz.
The Picnic at the Piano series allows music lovers to bring a picnic lunch and a blanket to enjoy a free, family-friendly concert on the lawn of the Okotoks Art Gallery.
The concert, which will take place on Wednesday, May 15 from noon to 1 p.m., is presented by the Town of Okotoks and the Okotoks Arts Council.
In the event of poor weather, the concert will move inside the art gallery.
Foothills Philharmonic Vocal Jazz is one of the several choirs of the Foothills Philharmonic Society, performing concerts with the society's chorus, men's choir and chamber choir.
Its repertoire ranges from sassy jazz numbers to an array of classic songs by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and Nat King Cole to war songs sung in the Andrews Sisters style.
It also loves to tackle jazz arrangements of classic pop and Pentatonix arrangements of Christmas songs and Beatles’ songs.
The choir says it will jazz anything up if given the opportunity.
