Holy Trinity Academy football is no stranger to the spotlight, but not quite like this.
The football field and announcers’ booth, along with parking areas, at the high school in Okotoks are being used for on location filming of season two of the hit Netflix series My Life with the Walter Boys on Oct. 28-29.
“They were scouting locations and they liked our field and set-up,” said HTA football coach Matt Hassett. “And they talked with the school board (CTR Catholic Schools) and it was really them talking with the school board that got everything going.
“We’ve put a lot of time and energy and resources into that field ourselves and also (CTR), I think it is (cool) that they want to come film there because they like what they see.”
HTA notified its students and parents on social media to expect reduced parking on Oct. 28-29.
“This crew will not be filming anything inside our school, nor involving any of our students, but will be using our school field, announcer booth, and east parking lot. We are asking for your cooperation in managing the reduced parking available to our students and staff on those two days. If students could consider taking the bus, getting dropped off, or carpooling, we hope this will ease the anticipated parking congestion,” the statement reads.
Because the film set is interfering with the HTA Knights football team practice schedule, as it prepares for playoffs to start this weekend, the production is covering the costs of transportation and field costs for the squad’s two days of practices in Calgary.
A teen drama in its second season of production, My Life with the Walter Boys is set in rural Colorado and chronicles a recently orphaned teenage girl from Manhattan who moves in with the Walter family.
The show, which debuted on Netflix in December 2023, has filmed extensively in southern Alberta communities.
