The Okotoks Film Festival, a five-day international film spectacle showcasing artists from around the globe, will run from May 31 to June 4 at Okotoks Cinemas. The festival includes online screenings and several days of in-person film events for all audience types, workshops with industry professionals and the screening of its popular 48-Hour Filmmaking Challenge. okotoksfilmfestival.ca 

 

The Town of Okotoks hosts Nature Friday every week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Environmental Education Centre. Games, activities, experiments, videos and more. The Friends of the Okotoks Public Library will be hosting a book sale June 2-4 in support of the library. Sale will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 2 and 3 and from 2 to 4 p.m. on June 4. okotokslibrary.ca 

 

An Indigenous Artisan Market will be held on Friday, June 2 (2 to 8 p.m.) and Saturday, June 3 (1 to 6 p.m.) at the Okotoks Recreation Centre. Indigenous artists will be selling their one-of-a-kind, hand- crafted pieces. okotoks.ca 

 

The Town of Okotoks is holding a document shredding event in the Okotoks Operations Centre parking lot on Saturday, June 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Give your sensitive documents new life by getting them shredded and recycled during Environment Week. okotoks.ca 

 

The Town of Okotoks is being honoured with the transfer of a traditional Blackfoot painted lodge (tipi) during a ceremony on Saturday, June 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Laudan Park. okotoks.ca 

 

The Rotary Club of Okotoks presents the 33rd annual Soapbox Derby on Saturday, June 3 on Crystal Ridge Drive beginning at 9:30 a.m. Inspection and time trials on evening of Friday, June 2. Event open to children eight to 14. Registration forms and information available at okotoksrotary.ca. Rain-out date is June 4. 

  

The Sheep Creek Arts Council is having a bake sale on Saturday, June 3 starting at 11 a.m. (after the Diamond Valley Days parade) at 133 B Sunset Blvd in Turner Valley. There will be lots of rhubarb pies and many other baked goodies. This is our only fundraiser of the year. If you wish to contribute baking, call Bill at 403-880-6048. Next door at the same time, the Diamond Valley Quilters are having their annual quilt show (entrance by donation) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you wish to enter a quilt, call Sheila at 403-931-3989. 

 

Polish up those boots and come out for the annual DeWinton Community Western Dance on Saturday, June 3 at the DeWinton Community Hall. The first annual Youth Celebration Expo will be held on Sunday, June 4 from noon to 7:30 p.m. at the Olde Towne Okotoks Plaza. In recognition of the start of the first Pride Week in Okotoks, the celebration will include entertainment, a mini market, children’s activities, a video game truck and more. Okotoks.ca 

 

A free Community Pancake Breakfast for all ages will help kick off Seniors' Week on Monday, June 5. The breakfast, which will feature entertainment by The Travelling Mabels, will run from 7 to 11 a.m. at the Foothills Centennial Centre. okotoks.ca/seniors-week 

 
A Seniors' Afternoon Tea Party will be held on Monday, June 5 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Foothills Centennial Centre. Reconnect with fellow seniors in our community and meet new friends. A Memory Cafe will be held on the first Wednesday of the month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Okotoks Seniors Club. It’s an opportunity for people with memory loss and their caregivers to meet for mutual support. Call 403-960-6040 for details.

Motivational speaker Leonard Quilty will present Forget Webster: Define Yourself! at the Okotoks Public Library on Saturday, June 10 from 11 a.m. to noon. Free event will include a speech on personal empowerment followed by a question-and-answer session. okotokslibrary.ca

The Okotoks Museum and Archives has an exhibit commemorating the 150th anniversary of the NWMP/RCMP on display until Sept. 2. The exhibit not only marks a major milestone in Canadian history, but also explores the community’s policing history. okotoks.ca 

 

OM Chanting is held every Saturday at the Okotoks Public Library from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. It is an ancient, dynamic meditation technique which helps us realign with nature and existence. The Okotoks Art Gallery has a pair of exhibits on view until June 23. Stephen Strand’s Western Canada Landscapes is a collection of everyday scenes of Western Canada, while Patricia Lortie’s The Keepers uses the forest as a visual metaphor to explore concepts of self and community. okotoks.ca 

 

Teachers Rule! exhibit is on view at the Okotoks Museum and Archives until June 30. The exhibit shares the trials and triumphs of some of the early teachers who taught in the Okotoks area as well as some fond and not-so-fond memories from their former students. okotoks.ca 

 

The LEGO Club meets every Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. at the Okotoks Public Library. Kids aged six to 12 can enjoy playing with LEGO and meeting new friends in the free, drop-in activity. okotokslibrary.ca 

 

The Rotary Club of Okotoks meets on the first and third Wednesdays of every month at 6 p.m. at the Crystal Ridge Golf Club. okotoksrotary.ca 

 

Foothills Writers Group (formerly the Indie Author Group Okotoks) meets every third Thursday at the Okotoks Public Library from 6 to 8 p.m. The group is a community of local authors whose goal is to encourage and support writers during their creative journey. An ELL (English Language Learning) class is held every Thursday from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. at the Okotoks Public Library. Learn vocabulary that will help you in everyday situations in classes facilitated by YMCA LINC instructor Deb Payne. Classes are free and drop-in. okotokslibrary.ca 

 

The Okotoks Chess Club meets every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Okotoks Public Library.
