Food drive in Diamond Valley a 'smashing success'

Tons of food and thousands of dollars were donated to Oilfields Food Bank by people in Diamond Valley and Longview during community food drive.

Thousands of kilos of food were collected during a recent community food drive in Diamond Valley and Longview. 

On Nov. 13 and 14, firefighters went door-to-door in those communities, collecting donations for the Oilfields Food Bank. 

The food bank announced final numbers , saying the event was a smashing success. 

Almost 7,000 kilograms of food was collected along with over $6,000 in cash donations. 

“The team at Oilfields Food Bank is so appreciative of the passion and determination shown by everyone involved in this annual event,” it said. 

The food bank offered thanks to firefighters, Scouts and all the volunteers who help behind the scenes, as well as Granny’s Pizza for making sure everybody was fed, and to the residents of Diamond Valley and Longview for their generosity.
