GALLERY: Benefit concert raises funds for Okotoks Food Bank

The Okotoks Food Bank's benefit concert, featuring Rum Runners and MzBehavin', was a huge success, with community members filling the Okotoks United Church and donating hundreds of pounds of food.

Family-friendly fun was on the menu at an Okotoks Food Bank benefit concert last weekend.

The event was held at Okotoks United Church on Feb. 3, and saw community members come out to support the food bank and enjoy performances from Rum Runners and MzBehavin'.

"We're raising funds for families in need in the Okotoks area," said Char Hansma, volunteer and events co-ordinator for the Okotoks Food Bank. "We purchase any food that we don't get donated to go into our hampers, and sometimes to subsidize the Help Yourself Shelves that we have.

"We had over 20,000 visits last year, that's over 400 visits a week. We gave out hampers to 1,200 families, so food insecurity really is a huge reality in our community."

Over 465 pounds of food were donated along with an estimated $2,000 in cash.
