GALLERY: High River gets medieval

The Foothills got a taste of Feudalism with the High River Medieval Faire this weekend

The High River Medieval Faire and Tournament happened this weekend at the High River Agricultural Society.

The June 28-29 event offered an assortment of historical entertainment.

One of the main attractions was the Buhurt Tournament held by the Foothills local Arverni Legion. The tournament gathered different medieval combat groups from across the realm to compete.

Groups fought in different forms of individual and team combat against each other. Different matches were held for different weapon styles like polearms, two-handed and sword and shield.

Another highlight of the event was the jousting and horsemanship competitions. Put on by another Foothills group, the Society of Tilt and Lance Calvary, the events saw true horseback medieval combat make its way onto the rodeo grounds.

The event also brought in food and craft vendors to display their goods to a crowd often in period appropriate costume.
