The MLA for Livingstone-Macleod will be working with Alberta’s health minister to consult with frontline workers during government efforts to refocus health care in the province.

Chelsae Petrovic was named parliamentary secretary for health workforce engagement by Premier Danielle Smith, it was announced on March 21.

Petrovic has over 13 years of experience as a licensed practical nurse and was elected UCP MLA for Livingstone-Macleod in 2023. Smith said she is confident that Petrovic's work will lead to a stronger system.

Minister of Health Adriana LaGrange said Petrovic will bring an important perspective to the table.

“The voice of every health care worker is critical to understanding what is actually happening on the front lines and what needs improving,” LaGrange said. “(Petrovic) will help us incorporate those voices to strengthen the health system for all Albertans.”

Work to refocus health care began in the fall, and consultation with health care workers is scheduled to continue during the process, said the announcement.

The Province said that refocusing the entire health care system will lead to better health care outcomes and will improve access to care.
