Mountie Moments: Strangers offer candy to kid in Turner Valley

Two young men were reported to be attempting to lure children into vehicle with promise of candy in Diamond Valley.

Turney Valley RCMP are issuing a friendly reminder to parents and guardians to have a discussion with their child(ren) not to accept anything from strangers, including rides.

The detachment received a complaint of a suspicious person/vehicle on March 24 around 5:30 p.m. in Turner Valley in which unknown males were attempting to get a child into their vehicle by offering the child candy.

The make and model is described as a small black car with a loud muffler, tinted back windows, two Caucasian males, one with bushy curly hair wearing a black ball cap and another Caucasian male wearing a black ball cap in the passenger seat. The two males were described as just older than high school age.

Members responded immediately and could not locate the vehicle. There was no physical attempt to get the child in the vehicle.

In other police news, on March 22 at about 12:47 p.m., an employee exited their place of employment and when they started their vehicle they noticed it was quite loud. Upon further examination, the person noted  their catalytic converter was missing. This matter is currently under investigation.

On March 23 at about 1:26 a.m., there was report of a possible impaired driver on Highway 2. Members conducted patrols of the area and could not locate the driver or vehicle.

On March 16 at 7:30 p.m., Okotoks Rural Crime Watch held its annual general meeting and a question was asked regarding the call volume from last year (2021) to current. In 2021 there were a total of 6,297 calls for service in the Foothills region. In 2022, there were a total of 6,835 calls for service and from January 2023 to March 20, 2023, there has been a total of 1,201 calls for service.
