Leadership students at Foothills Composite High School have launched various social cause campaigns this month to bring joy, light and love to the community.

Grade 10 and 11 students were encouraged to brainstorm ideas on how they could volunteer their time and energy to support those less fortunate ahead of the holidays.

Ella Day and Dahlia Watt, both in Grade 11, decided to collect winter clothes.

"It could help them so that they don't freeze," said Watt.

"It also helps that they'll feel seen and provided for," Day added.

Hats, gloves, mittens, jackets, scarves and other winter items are being collected until Dec. 21. Donations can be dropped off in the labelled bins in the school's foyer.

Any items, in clean, gently-used condition, will be donated to My City Care Okotoks, which supports the community through donation and aid programs.

Other students have decided to help in other ways, including toy and food drives.
