With a Canada Post strike or service interruption possible as early as May 22, the Town of Okotoks is encouraging residents and businesses to prepare for possible delays in mail delivery that could affect the distribution of important municipal documents like property tax bills, utility bills and invoices.
Regular payment deadlines still apply for utilities, taxes and business licences. It remains the responsibility of recipients to make sure that payments are made by the specified due dates.
In the event of a Canada Post mail service disruption, payments should be made using one of the following options to avoid missed deadlines and late penalties:
Pay in Person: Present a copy of your bill/tax notice and payment (cash, cheque or debit) to the cashier at the Okotoks Municipal Centre at 5 Elizabeth St. The centre is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Pay at your Bank: Pay at most banks and credit unions by presenting a copy of your bill and form of payment.
After Hours Payment Drop-off: Place your payment along with the bottom portion of your bill/tax notice in an envelope and drop your payment off into the night deposit box located at the front doors of the Okotoks Municipal Centre.
Online: Payments can be made online through most major banks or credit unions. To avoid late charges, allow seven days for processing.
The Town is encouraging homeowners to sign up for e-billing to get their property tax notice delivered straight to their inbox.
The Town offers automatic utility bill payments, collected every two months. Sign up for auto-withdrawal here.
Property taxes can also be paid monthly through the Tax Installment Payment Plan (TIPP), which automates payments, spreads payments out over the year and helps reduce the risk of late penalties. Sign up for TIPP here.
At this time, the Town does not accept payment by credit card or e-transfer for utility and tax bills. For more information on paying your utility bill or property taxes, call 403-938-4404 or visit okotoks.ca/utilities, okotoks.ca/taxes or okotoks.ca/ways-to-pay.
