Selecting the perfect Christmas tree is an important holiday tradition for those who want to put the real thing in their living room.

With that in mind, the 1st Okotoks Scouts opened their tree lot Nov. 30 in the Safeway parking lot in D’Arcy Crossing.

According to their website, the Scouts have Douglas fir, premium fir and regular fir trees to choose from, while supplies last.

Jackie Heuver, a 15-year member of the Scouts organization, said that due to supply issues, they’ve received 100 fewer trees than last year, and had to go to a new supplier.

Heuver said the tree lot will be busy right out of the gate.

“I expect tonight through until next weekend to be our busiest week,” she said. “People are tending to get out and get their tree earlier, rather than later, for that selection.”

Getting a tree from the Scouts helps support local Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Venture groups.

“Your purchase would help send kids to camp, helps us maintain our equipment and helps us with our weekly adventures,” she said.

The tree lot is open seven days a week, Monday to Friday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
