Season openers don't get much better than a 20-plus goal outburst.
The Okotoks Marauders kicked off the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League Junior B Tier I regular season in style with a 21-5 victory over the Southern Alberta Rockies with 14 players contributing on the scoresheet on April 27 at the Murray Arena.
Owen Williams was at the centre of the attack with a two goal, nine assist performance with Max Pocherewny notching a game-high four goals and Frank Gallup registering a hat trick and three assists.
Rookie Drew Dunbar, alternate captain Blake Robinson, Jacob and Lucas Harlow each had two goal games with Ryder Endall, Rhys Morris and Jett Taylor also finding the back of the net.
Ashton De Groot and Carson Sproul split the goaltending duties and held the visitors to the five markers on Saturday.
In the first of the all-Okotoks junior lacrosse double-header, the Okotoks Ladies Raiders were defeated 14-6 by the Rockyview Silvertips in the RMLL Alberta Major Female opener.
Okotoks had a strong showing on the powerplay and had key contributions throughout the lineup.
Okotokian Jordyn Payne completed a hat-trick with a penalty shot goal and added another for good measure on the powerplay to end the contest with a team-high four goals. Cameron De Paiva was a force all afternoon, adding a tally with rookie and first overall draft pick Brooklynn Carson notching her first goal with the team with a buzzer beater in the second period.
The Ladies Raiders are next in action on the May 4-5 weekend with a two-game road trip featuring stops in Edmonton and Red Deer.
Okotoks' next home date is May 11 versus the Red Deer Riot.
