High River chuckwagon driver Jason Glass, pictured earlier this season at the Battle of the Foothills in High River, won the Wild West WPCA World Chuckwagon Finals title along with the aggregate in the final event on tour on Sept. 2 in Ponoka.

Jason Glass reached the finish line on a winning note to cap a season to remember.

The High River driver charged to a first-place finish in the Wild West World Professional Chuckwagon Association (WPCA) Finals’ Century Downs Winners’ Zone Series heat Monday night to capture the $50,000 prize in addition to his aggregate championship from the first four days of racing in Ponoka.

Glass posted a track record, one that stood for over 10 years, to edge Jamie Laboucane, Chanse Vigen and Chad Fike in the final heat, in a time of 1:12.14 from the No.1 barrel along with outriders Dayton Sutherland and Tyson Whitehead.

The 2024 Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby champion had the best aggregate time through the first four days of racing at 4:57.56.

Vigen, who calls Calgary home, wrapped up the world championship on the weekend for accumulating throughout the WPCA campaign. He finished 72 points ahead of second-place finisher Glass with Rae Croteau Jr. rounding out the top three.

Sutherland, from Foothills County, wrapped up the season in 15th place while Blackie’s Jordie Fike was 35th.

Ethan Motowylo won the world outriding title ahead of three-time champion Rory Gervais.

The list of equine outfit of excellence winners included Glass’ right leader Chaska.
