A tight-to-the-bleachers infield brings you right on top of the action, making the 15th Annual Millarville Rodeo coming August 5-7, one of the very best in Alberta for spectators.

Run under the auspices of the Foothills Cowboy Association, the Millarville Rodeo will feature riveting fan favourite events like bull riding, steer wrestling, saddle and bareback bronc riding, barrel racing, calf roping, tie-down roping, team roping and, of course, the unpredictable and aptly named wild horse race.

We'll also have Bert Davis, the Coppertown Clown, and the Muttley Crew of dogs for our half-time entertainment, the latter making the cut for "America's Got Talent" at the Las Vegas auditions last year.

Bert has been clowning around all his life. As a little tyke, he hung around the renowned Oakville, California rodeo until they finally let him try on the trademark of all clowns, baggypants, as well as his first application of pancake make-up to his face… and now he’s living his dream.

Bert has worked with all kinds of animals, including goats, mules and llamas … but decided back in 1995 that dogs were his best partners (and a whole lot easier to get across the border).

“We have 10 four-legged kids and three four-legged grandkids,” said Bert proudly. "They are all rescue dogs ranging from Angela (19 years old) to little Kitty (her one-year-old pup) and they just love to perform.”

The whole family (Bert, his wife and the dogs) travel throughout North America all rodeo season and this year they’ll be entertaining at the Millarville Rodeo all three days.

Another bonus is the rodeo this year will be fully integrated with the famous Millarville Farmers' Market on Saturday, August 6, so come early and enjoy a morning of shopping before stepping over for a day of rodeo.

On Saturday night, Kixxen will the hot band providing the music for the Rodeo Dance, which starts at 8 p.m. and is $12 for advance tickets or $15 at the door.

The rodeo also features a Beer Garden and a Western Trade Fair, the latter with displays of western art, tack and agricultural products. You're welcome to stay at the race track campground overnight at $20 for the night and first come, first served.

Admission to the rodeo is $12 for adults, $6 for kids aged 6-12 and five and under free.

The three-day rodeo could not happen, of course, without the strong base of volunteers.
