The Carstar Okotoks Bisons knocked off the Sylvan Lake Wranglers to punch their ticket to this week's provincial tournament in Peace River.

The Carstar Okotoks Bisons started the Hockey Alberta Junior B Championships on the right note on Wednesday afternoon with a 6-5 win over the Capital Junior Hockey League champion St. Albert Merchants.

It was the first of four round-robin games for the Heritage Junior Hockey League champions at the six-team provincial tournament in Peace River.

Silver medallists as hosts of last year’s provincials, the Bisons take on the La Crete Lumber Barons today at 3:30 p.m. and the North Peace Navigators tomorrow at 7 p.m.

The round-robin finale will be a rematch of last year’s provincial final as Okotoks clashes with the Wainwright Bisons on Saturday at 6 p.m.

The tournament also features Calgary’s NWCAA Stampeders, who Okotoks is not scheduled to play in the round-robin.

The top four teams in the round-robin play for medals on Sunday.

Okotoks clinched the HJHL Final in six games in Sylvan Lake on March 30 to win their third consecutive league banner.
