It’s a back-to-back on two fronts for the Okotoks Dawgs Academy.
Dawgs 18U Black won its second tournament in as many weekends and repeated as Best of the West 18U Premier Showcase champions on May 4 in Kamloops, B.C.
The Dawgs won all five of their games in the Tournament Capital of Canada, capped off with playoff wins over the Langley Blaze 7-2 in the semifinal followed by the 7-4 coronation versus the North Shore Twins in the title match.
The academy highlighted a number of standout performances, including right-handed pitcher Preston Tocheniuk’s complete game, allowing just two runs in the semifinal, AJ Rogers’ four innings and eight strikeouts versus Diamond Baseball Academy along with Will Labonte’s five strikeouts over 4.1 innings and Max Poirier’s nine punchouts in two appearances over 6.1 innings.
At the plate, slugger Tim Piasentin’s hit two home runs and eight RBI, Alex Hitzan posted two dingers and seven RBI and catcher Taye Thierman had six hits and five RBI.
The Dawgs Academy won the Best of the West title in the 15U ranks the weekend prior.
Okotoks Black, which took home the PBA JV title at the end of April, will have a shot at a third consecutive title. This opportunity comes at home as the academy hosts the Mother’s Day Classic at the Seaman Stadium Complex from May 8-11.
