The Okotoks Dawgs sent the Fort McMurray Giants packing Tuesday night to advance to the second round of the Western Canadian Baseball League playoffs.
The Dawgs defeated the Giants 4-2 in Fort McMurray to sweep the best-of-three first round series as they look to defend their WCBL title. They won the series opener 8-0 on Monday night at Seaman Stadium.
In the series-clinching victory, Dawgs infielder Brendan Luther extended his hit streak to 19 games, going 2-4 with an RBI.
Logan Rumberg got the start on the mound, recording three strikeouts and allowing three hits over six innings.
The bullpen took over from there, allowing one hit and recording four strikeouts.
Following the first-round victory, the Dawgs will face the Sylvan Lake Gulls in the West Division Final.
The regular season series between the top two teams in the West Division went 7-3 in favour of the Dawgs.
Game 1 in the three-game series against the Gulls is on Friday Aug. 11, with the first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. at Seaman Stadium.
The series will move to Sylvan Lake on Saturday, Aug. 12 and return to Okotoks, if necessary, for Game 3 on Sunday, Aug. 13.
