Okotoks has made an addition on the last line of defence.
The Okotoks Oilers announced on Friday that 2006-born netminder Ben Vatis has joined the BCHL team for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.
“We’re excited to finally add Ben into the fold as we enter the stretch drive in our first full BCHL season,” said Oilers head coach and GM Tyler Deis, in a team release. “We’ve been very excited about his potential for a long time and hope he can carry over his previous success into his time in Okotoks.”
The Phoenix, Arizona product has skated this season with the NAHL’s Odessa Jackalopes where he registered two wins and a shutout along with an .890 save percentage.
Vatis, who signed a letter of intent with the Oilers last winter, was a standout member of the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes development program.
During the 2023-24 campaign, the 18-year-old posted a .920 save percentage and 28 wins with the U18 AAA outfit.
The Oilers are home for the first time in 17 days on Friday, Jan. 31 when they welcome the Blackfalds Bulldogs to the Viking Rentals Centre at 7 p.m.
