The Okotoks Ice’s title hopes have melted away.

The Junior B Tier II squad bowed out in the second round of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League playoffs in a dramatic two-game, total goal set with the Medicine Hat Sun Devils on July 16-17.

After sweeping the Lethbridge Barracudas in the first round, the third-seeded Ice played the top-ranked Sun Devils in hostile territory.

The Ice took the first game by the score of 10-8 on July 16 to seize a two-goal lead in the series.

Medicine Hat started the game off strongly and took a 7-4 lead into the final frame.

However, the Ice stormed back with six goals in the last 20 minutes to steal a road victory.

Facing elimination, the Sun Devils came back with resolve on Sunday.

The hosts recorded a 9-7 victory that meant both teams were deadlocked at 17 goals through the two games.

Thus a 10-minute, winner-take- all overtime period was required to decide who would move on to the league final.

Unfortunately for the Ice, they could not complete the upset.

Medicine Hat recorded two goals while Okotoks failed to dent the scoreboard in the extra frame.

With the win, the Sun Devils captured the Junior B Tier II South division title and advanced to play the Edmonton Wizards in the league final.

Edmonton won the best of three games final

It was a successful year for the Ice program on the floor as they finished with an 11-3-0 record and the best goal-differential in their division.
