Okotoks’ Raiders in the hunt at midway mark of provincials

Hockey: Rocky Mountain 1-1 through two days at U18 AA championships

It’s going to come down to Saturday at the Hockey Alberta U18 Female AA Championships in Okotoks.

The hometown Rocky Mountain Raiders sit in third place in the standings through two days of competition with a win and a loss and the top four squads from the five-team tournament earning the right to play for a medal on Sunday at the Okotoks Centennial Arenas.

On Friday, Rocky Mountain got in the win column with a big assist to the last line of defence.

Okotokian Madilyn Juneau made 41 saves to backstop the Raiders to a 3-1 victory over the Calgary Fire White.

Blueliners Emmarae Labelle, Abby Graham and forward Molly Sears provided the offence for the hosts.

The Raiders opened the tournament with a 5-3 loss to the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs on Thursday.

Charlotte Hallam, Rozene Sabeti-Seidel and Brooke Harder scored in the loss.

Red Deer leads the standings with a 3-0 record, Calgary is 2-1 with Rocky Mountain at 1-1, with a game in hand on the leaders. The St. Albert Sharks are 1-2, their win coming in overtime, and the Sherwood Park Fury are 0-2-1.

On Saturday, the Raiders battle St. Albert at 9 a.m. and take on Sherwood Park in the finale at 2:30 p.m.

The medal games are 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
