A trio of Okotoks prospects earned good news on Thursday.
Okotoks U15 AAA Oilers defenceman Jack Parsons, goaltender Carter Crawford and forward MacLane Tetarenko had their names called at the Western Hockey League Prospects Draft on May 8.
Parsons, a 6-foot, 175 pound blueliner, was picked in the sixth round by the Seattle Thunderbirds. The defenceman posted nine points in 30 games and represented Okotoks on Team Green at the Alberta Cup last month.
Crawford was one of just 26 goalies selected in the draft when the Everett Silvertips called the Okotokian’s name in the sixth round, 138th overall.
The netminder had 10 wins during the regular season, shined during the postseason with a .959 save percentage in three games and is fresh off a strong performance at the Alberta Cup.
Tetarenko, the Edmonton Oil Kings’ ninth round selection, 197th overall, also starred at the Alberta Cup where he finished tied for fourth in tournament scoring,
The 15-year-old, the son of former NHLer Joey Tetarenko, tallied 24 points in 33 games with the Oilers. MacLane’s older brother Lochlan is a member of the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks.
All told, 227 players were selected by WHL teams. Alberta had the most players selected with 75 compared to 51 from B.C., 39 from Manitoba, 35 from Saskatchewan and 24 from the U.S.
Regina centre Maddox Schultz went first overall to his hometown Pats.
