September 18, 1934 – May 1, 2020

Denzil Marion Cameron (McPeak) passed away at her home in Nanton.

Born in High River, to King and Frieda (Eld) McPeak, Denzil spent her early years on a farm East of Cayley where she attended the country school Sharon. The family later moved to a farm on the banks of the Little Bow where she continued her education at Brant School. When her dad King was lost in a car accident in 1944, the family, Frieda and her 3 daughters moved to Nanton, where Denzil finished her schooling. After high school Denzil attended Henderson’s Business School in Calgary and upon completion worked for a Wholesale Food Distributor.

Denzil met Grant Cameron at a church function in Nanton in the fall of 1953 and they were married at the Nanton Baptist Church on January 5, 1955. Grant had purchased a farm outside of Cayley and it soon became a family home with the births of Nancy and King. Denzil was an integral part of the farm helping with the purebred herd of Herefords and tending a large garden. She helped coach the Cayley High School girls’ basketball team and was Assistant leader of the Cayley 4-H Beef Club for 4 years. While on the farm, Grant and Denzil enjoyed many trips travelling to Europe, the Cook Islands, Barbados, Mexico and the Eastern seaboard of Canada and the U.S. They also enjoyed yearly trips salmon fishing on the west coast.

Due to Grant’s illness, they moved to Nanton in 1996. After Grant’s passing in January 1997, Denzil continued her farm involvement with King. She also continued travelling with her sisters, Joan and Gail and
on occasion Nancy.

Denzil joined the Cayley branch of the Rebekahs in 1976 and was an active member for over 40 years. During these years she served every chair several times, with the exception of Chaplin. She also served 2 years as the District Deputy President for the Alberta Rebekah Assembly.

Denzil enjoyed and loved her family above all things. She was an accomplished cook and baker and enjoyed many years in a Gourmet Cooking Club. Denzil loved her garden, fishing, many disciplines of hand work and playing cards.

Denzil is survived by her son King (Becky Howe) of Cayley, daughter Nancy (Dan) Morrison of Longview. Sisters Joan Cornish and Gail McPeak, cousin Joy Eld all of Nanton. Grandchildren Levi Cameron (Bre) of Nanton, Caleb Cameron of Calgary, Travis (Chris) Morrison and their children Tessa, Aleesa and Benjamin of Bashaw AB, Tyler Morrison and his son Kolten of Scotch Creek BC. She is also survived by numerous extended family members and many friends.

A private family service will be held at a later date. If desired, in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to STARS or The Children’s Hospital.
