It is with heavy hearts that the family of Donald Thurber announces his peaceful passing on March 5, 2024 at the age of 84 surrounded by family.

Born January 30, 1940 to Frank and Muriel Thurber; Don lived his entire life dedicated to family, farming and community. Don began farming, taking over his grandfather’s homestead at the age of 15. He actively farmed until he was 60 when injury resulted in “retirement”. However, while he no longer physically worked his land he remained involved; managing operations till the very end.

On January 31, 1964 Don married Selma and his life was never the same. Together they raised 3 daughters, Bonnie, Suellen and Laura. He cherished his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; spending time with them was always a priority. In January 2024 Don and Selma celebrated their 60th Anniversary; a milestone not reached by many and a testament to their commitment to each other.

Community was a substantial part of Don’s life. He was a member of the Mossleigh Lions Club, Mossleigh Community Club and the Blackie Masonic Lodge. He could frequently be found working volunteering at community events; always willing to lend a helping hand to whoever needed it.

Don is survived by his wife Selma, daughters Bonnie (Jim) and Laura (Dave), grandchildren Jennifer, Jessica (Colin), Matthew (Samantha), Ryan (Alex), Tyler (Amira), Maddison (Tomas) and Erik and his great grand daughters, Iyla, Jane, Elise, Brynlee and Kate; and Judy (Howard) Snider. Don was predeceased by his twin brother (at birth), his parents Frank and Muriel and his daughter Suellen.

Don was a man of character; generous, determined, hardworking, selfless, kind and loyal, he loved to laugh and celebrate life. He will be missed.
