Frances Voyce, 81, died peacefully at St Joseph’s in Edmonton, family
at her side, on January 28, 2024. She will be missed by daughters:
Francelia (Pierre), and Heather-Jane; stepchildren: Heather, Laura, and
Bruce; grandchildren: Jean-Guy (Meghali), Luc, Cara, Raeann, Eric, Alex,
Sophia, and Kaya; great-grandson Lennon; sisters: Sheila (Gordon) and
Carla (Bill); cherished nieces & nephews, other family and friends. She
is predeceased by her parents Carl and Teresa, sisters: Ann and Caye;
brother John; 1st and 2nd husbands: Percy (Perry) and William (Bill); and
son-in-law Dick.

Born in Calgary, Fran was the third of six children, raised on a farm east
of Black Diamond, AB, and later in a house on the edge of town. She was
vibrant and adventurous – so much so she was the first of her siblings
to plan and arrange herself schooling in the city, moving to Edmonton in
junior high. She boarded with a family who took great care of Fran while
she helped with childcare and chores. She and Perry started dating while
in high school. Summers Fran would be back with family, helping on the
farm, and working on the Stampede Guest Ranch honing her pie and
bread making skills.

Fran joined the Edmonton General Hospital Nursing School, where she
belonged to Solidarity of Our Lady, was Social Coordinator for the Student
Nurses’ Association of Alberta and won her Graduating Class Achievement
Award for Obstetrical Nursing.

Fran and Perry married and spent their first year in London England,
where she worked under the very strict nuns at the hospital. They
returned to Canada, briefly living in Calgary, until Perry started Law School
in London, ON. Fran’s nursing career flourished in labour & delivery, while
also raising her family. They next moved to North Vancouver for Perry’s
articling. Later separated and as a single mom, Fran moved back to
London, ON expanding her nursing to OR Recovery. Subsequently, Fran
married Bill, and they moved to Edmonton with the girls. There Fran
continued hospital-based nursing on GI, endocrinology, hematology, and
general medicine, as charge nurse.

Fran was born to be a nurse. She connected intuitively with her patients
& their families, caring and advocating for them with profound love. She
was a strong leader and built lifelong friendships with peers.

Fran had deep Faith and loved her family. Unfortunately, in her later years
she suffered from dementia. We are grateful she can now freely rest in
the arms of Our Lord.

We are thankful for care she received, especially at Gerald Zetter,
Villa Caritas, the SCU Lynwood, and on BlueJay at St Joseph’s. Her
Catholic Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Thomas More Parish
(210 Haddow Close NW, Edmonton) on Friday, Feb 16, at 12:45 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Fran’s name to Doctors
Without Borders Canada https://www.doctorswithoutborders.ca/.
