Camera club focuses on its annual winners

It has been a while since the Turner Valley Oilfields Camera Club has reported to our community.

It has been a while since the Turner Valley Oilfields Camera Club has reported to our community. While we are all busy in our lives, we have been taking a few moments to pursue one of our favourite pastimes; photographing the Alberta sunsets, the Calgary skyline at sunrise, local rodeo action, stunning flowers, our favourite birds and animals, as well as some sights from international travel.

What you may not know is that the Turner Valley Oilfields Camera Club is entering into its 50th year. It was originally founded in June of 1963. Today we have two lifetime members, Peggy Orr and Nola Middleton.

Ted Dawson from High River has been our competition judge for approximately 30 years. The club did experiment with peer judging this past season, but turned the “People” category and “Best in Show” back to Ted. It is a challenging job and we thank you Ted.

Our annual banquet and photo presentation and competition was held at the Turner Valley Golf Club on Tuesday, May 8. Our thanks goes to the folks at the golf club for a wonderful meal and room.

The category winners for this season were as follows: People — Barb Larson; Plants — Clay Ross; Animals — Mark Williams; Landscape — Pat McDonell; Cityscape — Hank Wiechel; Action — Mark Williams; Nature — Sheila Smith. It was a tie to the finish for “Best in Show” awarded to Barb Larson and Pat McDonell.

Watch for the Continuing Education publication in the mail this month. Camera club member, Chuck Murphy, will be teaching a Camera Basics Course on the second Tuesday of the month for September through December. This is sure to be a great learning forum for a limited number of people.

Club meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month at the Sheep Creek Arts Council in Turner Valley. Our season runs from September to May/June. For additional information please contact Sam Best, 403-874-5518.
