It’s time for something Scottish

Robbie Burns was born on Jan. 25, 1759 in Alloway, Scotland. In July 1786 he published 612 copies of poems, chiefly in the Scottish dialect. His poetry and songs have been revered since then and he is celebrated to this day at Robbie Burns Nights on or near the date of his birthday. I’ve been to a couple Robbie Burns Nights and these events can be really fun. It’s a great excuse to get together and enjoy everything Scottish.

A spectacular Robbie Burns night is set to take place in Okotoks at the Foothills Centennial Centre on Jan. 26. Las Vegas comedian Johnny “Bagpipes” Johnson will have you laughing out loud and the Celtic band Fraid Knot will have you dancing a jig.

Proceeds from this event will go to the Foothills Concussion and Rehabilitation Centre, which is a non-profit foundation dedicated to concussion education, research and treatment and also to the Okotoks Oilers Hockey Club. This is the first fundraising event for the Foothills Concussion and Rehabilitation Centre and this local organization would really appreciate your support.

More information and tickets are available at www.fcrcentre.com or call 403-389-9475.
