LETTER: Adding alcohol never has a good ending

Allowing drinking seven days a week over the summer in Olde Towne Okotoks is a terrible, harmful idea.

Dear Editor,

I would like to address the members of our town about the new project Okotoks council is working on to allow drinking seven days a week during the summer months in Olde Towne Okotoks.

I’m sure I am not the only one with concerns as I have had to deal with others and their alcohol forever. I believe this is a terrible, harmful idea. Maybe it could be allowed during Town events on weekends only.

Will there be portable potties set up so those individuals that have consumed too much won’t bother the businesses for washrooms? Will there be a clean-up crew (more taxpayers’ money) when these individuals happen to throw up? Will we have to pay more for policing? I do hope council has taken this into consideration.

And what about the underage? Will council be supplying babysitters to monitor the drinking age?

Alcohol is not the answer. I’m not sure who would even come up with such a horrible idea of it being OK seven days a week. It definitely sends the wrong message to our family-oriented town.

If this entertainment district is approved, it will not be a good ending. Alcohol never is.
