Dear Editor,
It was Canada Day 2025. I was on my way to pick up my grandson and my daughter to start our celebrations at Dr. Lander Memorial Swimming Pool, dinner at The Westwood and fireworks at the Erma Joy Brown Park in Diamond Valley.
I planned a day full of celebration with my family. You see, I am a fiancé, a mother, a grandmother, a friend and a strong community supporter.
You and your buddy were motorcyclists. In less than a minute, you almost took that all away from me. Then, you would have traumatized my family, friends and community.
I was driving my SUV along the last section of the double solid yellow line highway to Turner Valley when you came up behind me. As curved highways can be more challenging to navigate than straight roads due to reduced visibility, potential for skidding, and the need for careful speed and steering adjustments, I exercised caution.
As I cautiously approached the curved highway and the double solid yellow line on the road, I knew it signified a no-passing zone for traffic in both directions. It indicated that crossing the lines to pass another vehicle is strictly prohibited.
Ohhhhhh but not to you two motorcyclists.
You not only sped up behind me and came extremely close to my driver's side, you then proceeded to pass me on the double solid yellow line on the curved highway. That put me, the motor vehicles behind me, the oncoming motor vehicles – and all their occupants – at high risk of collision and injury.
My life flashed in front of my eyes. My life. A fiancé. A mother. A grandmother. A friend.
Why? Who gives you two the right to risk my life and that of other motorists? What if we died or became lifelong impacted/impaired?
It is my opinion, based on your behaviour, that you had no idea, nor did you care about, the pain and suffering you could have caused. Your actions were dangerous, psychologically damaging, selfish and inconsiderate.
You two motorcyclists need to know about the pain and suffering you could have caused. It would be life-altering for those involved in the MVA, their families and friends, and their communities.
All for no reason at all but for your selfishness and inconsideration. You two motorcyclists should be ashamed of yourselves.
