Dear Editor,
Re: Calgarian happy to make the trade for deer, Nov. 22
I feel that I must respond to the letter to the editor from outsider Bill Gess concerning the deer problem in Okotoks.
Unless you have a residence here and have had thousands of dollars of landscaping become a buffet for the deer, unless you have had a relative or pet injured in a deer attack, unless you have had a vehicle damaged because of deer darting out onto the road, you have no right to comment on this issue. You are welcome to our deer so that they can become your problem.
Your big city problem of hoodlums and the homeless, caused by your politicians, is something each community can deal with on an individual basis. The police cannot be everywhere.
The next time someone pitches a tent in the lane behind your house, gather a half dozen real men from the neighbourhood and tell that person that it would be in their best interest to set up camp somewhere else. Say that you and your friends will all be back in an hour on your way to baseball practice, with your bats of course, and hopefully the tent will be gone.
You want a safe community? Then you make it safe. Safe from deer or safe from hoodlums.
