LETTER: Suite rejection no way to treat fellow human beings

I am appalled at the fact that I live in a world where the selfishness of some overrides what should be done.
The City is asking residents to weigh in on the issue of secondary suites.

Dear Editor,

Re: Mixed reaction to suites in County hamlets, April 12

This letter is in response to the article regarding the addition of secondary suites in Foothills County hamlets in order to help alleviate the housing/rental crisis. One of the comments included in the story stated that secondary suites are associated with lower income areas such as Forest Lawn in Calgary.

While I have not lived in Forest Lawn, I lived near there. There are many there who take pride in their property. I'm doubtful that the commenter has ever visited there.

There are many secondary suites in all areas and crime and lawlessness occurs there also.

I am appalled at the fact that I live in a world where the selfishness of some overrides what should be done. Contentment can be found in giving to others; perhaps spend some time volunteering at the food bank. You will find these people to be just like you and me, however they have not had the same luxuries (for example, housing) that many of us enjoy.

I sincerely hope that they are never in a situation where a roof over their heads is a concern. Many would love to have a way to be nearby to assist aging parents, etc. If this is how we treat fellow human beings, well, I just don't know what to say about that.
