CUPE 5040 members gathered in Okotoks to rally as part of a province-wide day of action on Sept. 21, 2024.

Dear Editor,

I know that leaders of the Foothills School Division see and value the work that education support staff does. Obviously, these leaders care deeply for the students in the area; they wouldn’t have gotten into education if they didn’t.

Like the members of CUPE 5040, they want to give all children the best possible start in life. I’m sure that division leaders would agree that the quality of public education is suffering because of underfunding.

We know this isn’t their fault. The premier has let it slip that the government is holding the purse strings and directing the PBCO interference. The province needs to get its priorities straight and pay its education support workers a livable wage.

I am inviting the Foothills School Division to join us, like other school boards are starting to do, in standing united against those who would keep us down. Help us all flourish.
