Dear Editor,

I just wanted to thank all the dedicated residents in Okotoks and our Foothills area for signing the petition against the entertainment district.

Our old downtown area is a delight for family and friends to walk and browse, with lots of little summer activities happening, without adding alcohol to it. This would not have benefitted our downtown businesses as there already are a few very nice patios on which to enjoy beverages.

A group of business owners attended two Town council meetings where many of us spoke against the entertainment district. We, the people, have been heard, so thank you to the Town council members for listening and reading the survey that was online, and realizing that alcohol was not a good answer to promoting our downtown businesses.

We did all agree that it would be allowed during our four summer events where they already have washrooms and policing in order for those events.

Again, a big thank you to our town for taking a stand against alcohol. Our voices were heard.
