Sunday evening a fire removed our last elevator on North Railway. The seed cleaning plant had not been used for about five years so it was just a matter of time before the structure would fall down one way or another.
The land is now vacant along the entire block. It is accessible and will surely be used for something in the future. A strip mall would work well. Possibly more commercial related than retail? How about an enclosed Saturday market place? People could rent spots for all types of food and art. If heated could be used year round.
The possibilities are endless.
I know the previous council used to talk about that land being used as a station for the LRT when it gets here.
Yes it is sad to lose a bit of history but in this case no one was going to spend any money upgrading the facility and fortunately no one was hurt in the fire so it may have been a blessing.

On Oct. 12 the Highwood Progressive Conservative Association is hosting a “Roast” to honour the retirement of our longtime MLA George Groeneveld. Over his tenure George worked extremely hard to represent the Highwood riding. The number of facilities and upgrades financed in this area by the Province during his time is impressive. A Saskatchewan farmer and his wife, on their way back home in January, are at the airport in Florida awaiting their flight. They are dressed in heavy boots, parka, scarf, mittens, etc. ready for the Canadian winter. An older American couple standing nearby is intrigued by their manner of dress.
The wife says to her husband, “Look at that couple. I wonder where they are from?”
He says he doesn't really care and if she wants to know she should go and ask them!
She decides to do just that and walks over and says,“Excuse me, looking at your dress, I wondered where you are from?”
The farmer replies, “Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.”
The women goes back to her husband and he says,“So, where are they from?”
She replies, “I don’t know. They don’t speak English.”
