People who deserve a medal

I’ve been busy lately writing nominations for committed volunteers and community builders to receive Foothills Canada 150 Medals.

I’ve been busy lately writing nominations for committed volunteers and community builders to receive Foothills Canada 150 Medals. I’ve also been quite busy reviewing nominations and preparing for the Leaders of Tomorrow awards and the Heart of Okotoks award that will be presented on April 12.

It really is amazing how many wonderful people there are out there who give so much of their time and resources to improve the lives of others without any expectation of recognition or reward.

Sometimes the most humorous content in a newspaper is something that wasn’t meant to be funny at all. I remember back when my Dad ran the Claresholm Local Press there was an advertisement for a grand opening of a new bakery called Pantry Pickings. There was a typo that became famous in town when their ad announced the Grand Opening of Panty Pickings. I found these advertisement bloopers from the past that made me laugh.

‘Piano: Would suit beginner with chipped legs.’ (Western Morning News)

‘Two business ladies require sleeping partner for beauty salon.’ (Liverpool Echo)

‘Hammers for sale – bulk purchase, would suit any handyman with claw head.’ (Dublin Evening Herald)

‘Please note. Rings can be ordered by post. Simply state size required or enclose string tied around your finger.’ (Townswoman)

Bernard and Sybil would like to announce their engagement due to unforeseen circumstances. Other commiserations.’ (Tampa Morning Tribune)
