Putting life in better perspective

It is a mistake we all make and it is a mistake, unfortunately, we cannot correct. Thankfully, if we change how we approach our lives, if we change our perspectives, it is a mistake we can avoid making again.

It is a mistake we all make and it is a mistake, unfortunately, we cannot correct.

Thankfully, if we change how we approach our lives, if we change our perspectives, it is a mistake we can avoid making again.

It was an incredible August long weekend in the Foothills. The weather was absolutely exquisite and there were plenty of things to do in our community.

As most people were preparing for the long weekend festivities I tossed and turned in bed thinking about all the things I had to finish. I tried as best I could to relax; I knew I had a busy week and I needed to get some sleep.

Try as I might I could not get my mind to slow down. Thoughts about projects at work, bills to pay and other tedious tasks rolled through my consciousness. So much so I could not sleep a wink.

Frustrated and exasperated I got out of bed and went downstairs to cool off on the deck.

It was an incredible morning. It was warm, the sky was clear and there was not a sound to be heard.

I sat there looking up at the sky taking in the breathtaking view as the bright stars gave way to the rising sun.

Finally, I cursed myself for how I was approaching my life.

Due to the way my mind was working — they way I had set my priorities — I was not enjoying what has been an incredible summer.

Each day I was so worried about what had to be done, about what was yet to come I was not even noticing what was happening in front of my face.

I realized I was so concerned about what was coming tomorrow I was not savouring today.

That is a mistake I will not make again.

Life is too short not to enjoy every moment. Those other things will get done, but take time to enjoy friends and family today not tomorrow.
