Show and shine a success

The third annual Olde Towne Show and Shine in Okotoks was a huge success judging by the amount of people it drew to the downtown core. The weather was just what the organizing committee was looking for.

The third annual Olde Towne Show and Shine in Okotoks was a huge success judging by the amount of people it drew to the downtown core. The weather was just what the organizing committee was looking for. Several blocks of the main street were closed to regular traffic and the foot traffic took over.

Congratulations to all those involved.

The next major event to take place in town will be the Foothills Highland Games which will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25 on the grounds of the Foothills Composite High School. This event features piping, dancing, bands, heavy games like throwing telephone poles around etc. There will be trick dogs, beer gardens, scotch tasting, wine bar, haggis burgers and so much more. After the full day of events for the public to watch a Ceilidh will begin in the big tent with lots of Celtic music and dancing. A day that is fun for everyone. See you there.

Performances on Friday and Saturday evening and then Sunday afternoon. Don’t forget the rodeo dance on Saturday starting at 9:30 p.m. right after the rodeo.

Now, I learned a long time ago not to believe everything you see or read on the internet, but I do believe the photos of a new prison just outside Toronto are true.

This prison, which was put out to tender by the Liberal government in 2002, is really something. The cells look more like small apartments and the facilities include an exercise room with all the latest equipment, a gymnasium, a recreation room with ping pong tables, foosball and of course a large screen TV. Did I mention each cell has a TV and a coffee maker? Oh yes, and don’t forget that the guests — I mean prisoners of course — can choose their meals from a menu. Compare this to our residential care and nursing homes for our seniors! Where did we go so terribly wrong!
