What happened to July?

Wow, once Stampede is over the rest of July has just shot by. I hate to be the one to bring this news to our students, but summer vacation is already half over. Lot’s of great events coming up in August.

Wow, once Stampede is over the rest of July has just shot by. I hate to be the one to bring this news to our students, but summer vacation is already half over. Lot’s of great events coming up in August. The Millarville Rodeo will be front and centre on August 3, 4 and 5th. A dinner and Rodeo Dance will take place on the Saturday evening. The following weekend will once again be the Show and Shine car show in downtown Okotoks. Plenty of things will be on display including the annual Quilt Show as well. Check this out on Sunday, August 12th. Main Street will be closed to traffic. The last Saturday of August will once again see the Highland Games take place on the grounds of the Foothills Composite High School. Lots of outdoor events during our hottest month of the year.

Some of us got up early on the weekend to watch an amazing end to the British Open. Funny how mental pressure can bring the best to their knees. I read where a guy in London made a $70 bet during the final round that Ernie Els would win. At the time Ernie was four strokes behind, but did win. The fellow cashed in over $30,000. The Stampeders did something similar last Thursday when they came back in the fourth quarter from a 17-point deficit to eventually win the game.

The Olympic flame has made it to London and the games are getting ready to begin. Should be fun watching some of the activity from the comforts of my couch!

The Okotoks Dawgs had a very successful jersey auction on Sunday afternoon to raise money for Breast Cancer. Over $22,000 was raised and the bidding was active at times. Some pink bats sold for over $1,000 each. The Dawgs organization does a great job of this event and about $135,000 has been raised over their six-year history. Saturday night’s game had an attendance of over 3,700. Nice! All-in-all quite a weekend of ball. Oh, by the way they split the games with Moose Jaw.
